How to be led by the Spirit of God!

(excerpts from the teaching series by Pastor John Roughton
Spirit of Faith Church, Dimapur, Nagaland)

Romans 8:14

For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.

Helpful points to be led by the Spirit of God:

1. Be Open

Isaiah 43: 18, 19

Do not remember the former things,
Nor consider the things of old.

Behold, I will do a new thing,
Now it shall spring forth;
Shall you not know it?

I will even make a road in the wilderness
And rivers in the desert.

Your future doesn't have to be a repetition of your past. Our God is the God of variety and can lead you in different ways.

Be ready for change in your life. Be open to God's directions even if it presently seems unreasonable.

Remember the story of Naaman, the Syrian who was asked by the propehet of israel to dip in the dirty river of Jordan.

2. Be Sensitive

Don't look for the spectacular and miss the supernatural.

Romans 8:16

The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God.

The inner witness can be

-a knowing
-a sense of peace or
- a check/stop in your spirit

Proverbs 20 :27

The spirit of a man is the lamp of the LORD,
Searching all the inner depths of his heart.

The guidance you need is in your spirit.

Psalm 32: 8, 9

I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go;
I will guide you with My eye.

Do not be like the horse or like the mule,
Which have no understanding,
Which must be harnessed with bit and bridle,
Else they will not come near you.

3. Be Filled

Luke 4: 1

Then Jesus, being filled with the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness,

If you are going to be led by the Spirit of God, then its obvious it will be much easier when you are
full of the same Spirit of God.

4. Be Mature

Don't live carnally in sin. Lead a godly life.

5. Be Still

The leading of God is a fragile, delicate matter.
Martin Luther said, "I have so many things things to do today that i need to spend at least 2 hours in prayer."
